Houses

Crows Nest House 01

Description

The house is for a family of 3 who became 4.

The owners loved the location, but needed more space, also more sun. The living areas faced south and the house was often cold and dark, with some dampness.

The existing house was a single storey, single fronted brick construction with 3 street frontages.

The architects retained the front of the house as it was in good condition. A bathroom, WC and l’dy were added as a ‘link’ to the existing building, allowing the rear open plan kitchen dining living to have high level windows, allowing natural sun from the east, north and west. A courtyard was created, and the car parking formalised with a fence, carport and sliding gates for access.

The project includes recycled bricks inside and out. The kitchen joinery is ‘Fenix’ black colour – a relatively new product used for benchtops and door fronts.

The owners liked an industrial feel and were happy to experiment with bold colour and texture.
